Still catching up on my “60 new things” posts – this is from 2 weeks ago.
When I moved to Colorado a while back, the friend who is currently visiting helped me to move. And by helped me move, I mean, she kept all the last minute task statuses in her head so that while I was losing my mind and could not remember if I put an item in my the Jeep or if I set it out for the movers and, the one that came up a lot, did I have my purse. We met some interesting people when I first moved here. One of them proudly told us,
“Oh we don’t live in this area, we live in Golden.
Our house is on top of Lookout Mountain.
It’s a gated community.”
We had no idea where any of that was and living in a gated community is not a big deal where I lived previously, so the bragging was wasted on us.
In honor of this weird person we met briefly sharing that important info with us, we decided to go to Golden and Lookout Mountain.
You’ll remember I had gone to Golden, Co a few weeks back to see the Buffalo Bill museum, gift shop, and grave. But I just did the driving thru town part, not the historic, old downtown part.
We set off on our adventure after gingerly inputting the address in the nav system, robot, thingy, cameras ready!
A funny thing we saw on out way there was a retirement community, in GOLDEN called Golden Pond Senior Living. Priceless!
The drive was lovely. We talked about anything and everything and nothing. For people who have known each other for more years than we hadn’t, we still have things that we never knew about the other.
We found a sign with a big welcome for us!

The downtown area was cute, lots of folks already enjoying the evening. There were some cute sculptures on every corner. I love that!
I saw something really cool, I didn’t get a picture, but the Coors brewery was on one side of the street and on the other side was a bar that advertised the had the freshest Coors beer in the state. We laughed at that a little too hard.
There was heavy traffic, so taking pictures while driving was a safety issue, but there are so many cute stores, antiques, western wear, artisan specialties, and restaurants and bars. It was late afternoon on a Friday and people were already enjoying their weekend and the fact that it looked as if this fake spring was actual spring.
We shopped, we snacked, we laughed. We were no longer fifty something’s, we were twenty something’s and had no worries. That is until we had to get out of the car to stop at the next place! 🫣
My favorite thing of the day was finding this sculpture.

The sculpture is called “Howdy Folks!” it is part of the welcome to Golden. As I mentioned earlier, there is art all over the city. I’ve seen beautiful sculptures all over the state (so far). Maybe I’ll have to plan an adventure and plot out a path to find sculptures across the state! Hmmmm 🤔😎
One of my favorite things about the exploring, discovering and poking around was all of the GOLDEN puns! Like the retirement home, the Golden Goods and Golden Sweets stores were favs just simply because they sold candies.
FUN FACT: My childhood favorite candy, Jolly Rancher, came from Golden! Now owned by Hershey, the little sour candies, and “fire stix” were created in 1949 right here!
The goal is 60 new things before I turn 60 and I have 45 more to go and I can’t wait!
