When I was a kid, summertime was the ultimate! For me, it was Christmas, Summer Break, and Halloween. Those were were my big three,
My granddaughter is on her summer break and so I thought we would take off for a weekend of fun!
I started scouring AirBNB for the right spot. I found a cabin in Bailey, CO. There is a near by creek for wading, skipping rocks or fishing.
Sofia has been saying she wants to go fishing since last summer and so I bought her a kids rod and reel and a little tackle box along with pink rubber worms. Part of me hopes she catches a little fish for the experience and we can toss it back. But the other half of me is hoping she doesn’t because, I’ve been gilled before and it’s not fun.
I used to say, “Oh, I’ve been fishing since I was a kid.” When I was watching YouTube on how to but the rig on the line, I realized that I had never done this before. It was always already done for me. Same thing when I went fishing with my ex-husband, everything was already set up.
So while on my 3rd video and no hook on the line yet, I realized why Dad never showed me how to do it. You need to take some yoga breaths and play some LED Zeppelin to make it will work.

The drive up here was fraught with rush hour traffic and road crews, so the 1 hour and 20 minute drive was almost 3 hours. But the views were lovely.

As I was driving, and the kiddo was asleep, I realized I was going off to the wilderness and up a mountain with a 6 year old, a dog, and me. If we get a wildlife visit, it will be mayhem. The thought made me laugh as visions of bears and elks and the goofy dog trying to save us while the kid is yelling, “Don’t hurt them Opal!” I’m sure YouTube has a video to for that event too.
We arrived about 5 pm, plenty of light still left of the day.

The first picture is the road to the cabin, the second is the top of the same road. (The new Jeep handled it like a pro!) The third is the front door and porch.
The temperature here is at least 15 degrees cooler here than at home. And it is so peaceful.
It’s a quaint little cabin, with a loft and a skylight and projector and screen for streaming. Perfect for a grandbaby, a needy doggy and a wacky granny.

After some waffles and bacon and some Boss Baby, we are off to explore and maybe even drown some pink, rubber worms. lots of firsts for this weekend are in the agenda, hopefully the kiddo’s first loose tooth stays in her month until I return her to her mommy and daddy. Seriously, it better stay in there. I am not sure if the tooth fairy could find us!
The goal is 60 new things before I turn 60 and I have 37 more to go and I can’t wait!
