Dinosaurs! #24

On the way back home, this past weekend, I saw a sign for Dinosaur Ridge.

That looked like a place perfect for us to explore. But the thing is, when we left our mountain cabin, it was about 70 degrees, but as we moved down closer to Denver, the temps creeped up and it was in the 90s. So now it was a scorcher!

We found the parking lot and there was a prairie dog colony!

Dinosaur Ridge is part of the Morrison – Golden Fossil Areas National Natural Landmark. It is literally next door neighbor to Red Rocks Amphitheater!

When finished parking, cute prairie dogs only got 1 “aww so cute” before running to the dinosaur statues.

We got the puppy dog out of the car and she immediately tried to pull us to the prairie dogs, so we try to redirect her. That was a feat of strength and wills, but she left them alone.

We looked at the signs for entering the museum and sign up for a tour. And that’s when I saw it, Dogs allowed outside, by the picnic tables, by the garden and in the parking lots. Not in the museum or on the tour. That news did not go over well!

But, we got some fun pics, by the sidekick/apprentice photographer/granddaughter. Here are her efforts:

My granddaughter loves Jurassic Park, all of the movies, but especially the ones with Chris Pratt. Her favorite dinosaur is the Velociraptor, in the movies, “Blue” the raptor born in captivity, is her favorite. I think it’s because even tho it is a dangerous creature, it was still helpful.

She said, “Hey let’s take picture of me being scared! That would be sooooo funny, huh?“

To make up for not getting to see everything, we had a trip to the park by my house, (there is a kids zip line) and had some popsicles.

The weekend was a good one, and the kiddo had fun and we found some very cool places.

The goal is 60 new things before I turn 60 and I have 35 more to go and I can’t wait!

About Me

My name is Susan and I turned 59 this week. I was not thrilled about this age or the one that would be coming up next. One celebratory post on social media that included a link, inspired me to try 60 new things or experiences before I turn 60 in 2025. Join me on this journey as I view these adventures through a dirty windshield.

Susan is a mom of 2, grandmother of 1 and owned by 1 dog. Currently living in the Denver, Colorado metro area.
