A couple of weeks ago, I can across silicone molds that were shaped like bones and paws. Doggie paws. Bones shaped like…a bone. They were cute and I thought maybe I would make those doggie popsicles or something.
I saw a lady on a video, on one of the many socials, showing how she makes her own dog treats for her dogs. I thought it didn’t look too hard and so I set on a little mission to figure out how to go about making this tasty dog treat.
Now, when I lived in. California, in the 1980s, there were pet treat bakeries popping up. It seemed silly at the time. But, as we moved into the 90s, dog treat bakeries were all over.
My granddaughter came to stay over this weekend and I asked her if she would like to make cookies for our doggos, the answer was YES!
We started by gathering the ingredients, and pulling up the recipe. The recipe I used did not call for this, but others did, so I also added about 1 1/2 teaspoons of honey. I have been making cookies since the very early 1970s, but never have I ever made cookies for dogs – on purpose. New thing territory over here in my own kitchen.

It was simple to mix by hand and my granddaughter got practice cracking eggs and how to measure tricky ingredients like peanut butter and honey. Now, I did omit the glaze. To me it seemed unnecessary, but bacon grease cookie glaze is something to look forward to on another day (and maybe not).
I scooped pieces with a spoon and rolled it a bit and they were pressed into the molds.

The cook time was very quick, we pulled them out and let them cool. Ok barely cool, my sidekick couldn’t wait and wanted to see them right away. So we got a couple out, blew on them enough to let the dog taste test for us, Opal, the doggo wannabe sous chef, gave them 2 paws up!

The goal is 60 new things before I turn 60 and I have 33 more to go and I can’t wait!
