What I Did In Texas #36

Ft. Worth, Texas is not Dallas. Many people hear the names and put them together as one town, and one the airport is even referred to as DFW. But ask anyone from both areas if it’s 1 or 2 and they will give you a definitive answer – it is 2.

I was here for my son in laws graduation. In all the time I lived in Texas, I did not have a reason to be in Ft Worth. And I have never been to the Dickies Arena. That is where the graduation was.

And then the ceremony started!

Afterwards, we went and got Tex-Mex!

After that amazing lunch, I did a little exploring.

Then I joined my aunt and cousin for dinner. It was wonderful to catch up.

The next morning, it was time to hit the road and get back to Colorado. But first, Whataburger!

Now, this newer Jeep has an updated robot, but it seemed like it was up to its own old tricks. It was telling me the fastest route was 14 hours long. But I made it to Ft Worth in just under 11 hours. That math wasn’t mathin’!

But off I went, believing that it would correct itself. Spoiler Alert: it didn’t.

Before I figured out that it was a little off, I did some … detours…

The scenery, was filled with Texas Drought Green which is not as brilliant as other areas, but I does have its good days.

When I came back to Memphis, Texas, I wanted to see if there was anything to see. And there was. In true small town on a Sunday fashion, most everything was closed.

Then, by surprise, the robot took me through Oklahoma!

I beat the storm and didn’t get caught in it – Whew!

And then I made it back to Colorado, just in time for sunset.

Now, after sunset, those clouds blocked the stars and the moon, so all the lights went out. Thats when my robot said to drive down a gravel road between two fields. And up ahead in the darkness I thought I saw a bit of a flashing light and some orange something. That is when I suddenly felt like Michael Scott and I was not going to drive into a pond! I turned around and found that at a 4 way stop, 3 of them were closed. I tried to stop the trip and recreate it, but it kept choosing that road. So Apple Maps to the rescue, and magically, I was going to be home by 10:30 PM, which is way different than the original 3:30 AM. And my own bed never felt so good!

The goal is 60 new things before I turn 60 and I have 27 more to go and I can’t wait!

About Me

My name is Susan and I turned 59 this week. I was not thrilled about this age or the one that would be coming up next. One celebratory post on social media that included a link, inspired me to try 60 new things or experiences before I turn 60 in 2025. Join me on this journey as I view these adventures through a dirty windshield.

Susan is a mom of 2, grandmother of 1 and owned by 1 dog. Currently living in the Denver, Colorado metro area.
