Favorite Subject In School?

What was your favorite subject in school?

History.

I love it.

I love learning about ancient communities and their customs and culture. I love learning about our country when it belonged to no flag. I love studying the politics of the time, where faith was in their society, how they got new clothing, how education worked, what about charity, commerce, how long did it take to get a letter to someone!

When I was in 9th grade, my history teacher, in Independnece, MO, made me truly fall in love with the subject. The first day of school, she had written a famous quote on the chalkboard, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it,” – George Santayana, philosopher.

When I started college, I was certain I would be a history professor. Alas, that is not the road life brought me down. Documentaries, Drunk History, Historical Dramas, those are my favs. If I discover a place to explore, I do research on it, learn about notable characters, what part of American history took place here. If there is a tiny brown sign on the side of the road with a marble or iron plaque, I am stopping to read it. And I’m going to take a picture of that sign and probably add it to my blog!

About Me

My name is Susan and I turned 59 this week. I was not thrilled about this age or the one that would be coming up next. One celebratory post on social media that included a link, inspired me to try 60 new things or experiences before I turn 60 in 2025. Join me on this journey as I view these adventures through a dirty windshield.

Susan is a mom of 2, grandmother of 1 and owned by 1 dog. Currently living in the Denver, Colorado metro area.
