I recently went on a long weekend type vacation with my daughter and son in love and my granddaughter. We traveled to Salt Lake City, Utah and explored the area. We chose roadtrip for our travel. Although our trek west did not involve a Conestoga wagon we did travel in a Subaru.
With my usual copilot doggo, Opal, spending time in a fun doggy hotel, I was footloose and fancy free…so to speak.
I joked with the kids about being glad that we weren’t the Griswolds and that I didn’t die and get strapped to the family truckster!

In Colorado, we have experienced a long fake spring and it was 71F the day we left, so arriving to temps at 50F and very overcast was a bit of a surprise for us. And… the LDS temple was closed for renovations! I had been to Utah before, but it was years ago and I went to Snow Canyon to see the petrified sand dune walls of the canyon. I went in July…it snowed…I was wearing peep-toe wedges…I chose poorly that day. This day however, I had good shoes and I was going to be walking.
We took the train to Temple Square and was immediately greeted by scaffolding and construction workers.

We ate lunch at a little shop called J Dawgs, an Utah based franchise, they sold hot dogs there and they were tasty. I mean, hot dogs, fries and a soda? It’s all American, right?

As we were walking around and exploring, my granddaughter asked if she could take pictures, so I treat you to the photographic eye of a 7 year old.

After our exploring, we treated ourselves to pedicures at Hearts Nail Spa, amazing service, top tier customer service, kindest nail techs ever.

For dinner we went to Tokyo Tower for sushi. The staff were great, our server, Rodney, was wonderful. We all ordered different sushi rolls and shared. It was mouthwateringly delectable.

The next morning, we ordered room service breakfast and took our time getting ready for the adventures of the day.
The Great Salt Lake is very stinky. Our day 2 was overcast still with ominous clouds looming. We wanted to have a picnic but the strong winds and stinky lake sent us back to the car for what my mother used to call a “car picnic”. We did those quite a bit in the winter when I was younger. She would have loved our picnic for sure.

The islands off the coast can be reached by ferry but they were not running that day. I would have loved to see them. We all said we want to come back. There is so much we didn’t get to see.
The nice thing about roadtrips is the scenery and we were surrounded by God’s perfect creation.

We made it back to Colorado safe and sound and still loving each other. Tired, but happy.
Adventure often!
