Unexpected Beauty& Surprises

I love quirky, unexpected surprises, you know like when you decide to go left instead of right to take the long way home (planting a Supertramp earworm there) and are rewarded with something that makes you pull over just to take it in. That happened to me yesterday.

See, working from home is great, but with grocery delivery, food delivery, it’s easy to just not leave the house. I find that I have to schedule leaving the house. Yesterday I realized I had not left the house, except to walk the dog in the park behind me, in 10 days. So, I took off after work and ran a couple of errands, then just a little drive. I drove into Louisville, Colorado and discovered a beautiful mural.

Across from the library in Louisville is a beautiful mural, a 3D mural by Chris Carlson and Nate Baronowski. This mural is at 950 Spruce St.

I love murals, and the 3D technique is so fascinating and this one more than most.

As I pulled away from the library, I spotted what looked like an old barn, but it had writing on the side. Of course I had to turn around and see what it said.

The side of the building said: The Louisville M&E Co Feed, Grain & Grinding. The Longmont Musuem in Longmont, Colorado has exhibits of tens of thousands of photos, tintypes, and objects about the farms, mills, dating back to the 1800s displaying art, history and the various cultures in the area.

The final surprise was finding a sculpture tucked into the trees that was across the way from e-Bike of Colorado. This sculpture is of John Breaux riding a bicycle and a little dog along side. John Breaux was a well-known Boulder County resident who could often be seen riding his bike, picking up roadside trash, and volunteering at local businesses. In 2009, Breaux was struck by a car and died at age 57. The life-size sculpture was donated by the sculptor, and is based off a photo of Breaux.

Those days when you turn left instead right, those bits of beauty or tidbits of history can bright your day too!

Life is an adventure, and mine is viewed through a dirty windshield.

About Me

My name is Susan and I turned 59 this week. I was not thrilled about this age or the one that would be coming up next. One celebratory post on social media that included a link, inspired me to try 60 new things or experiences before I turn 60 in 2025. Join me on this journey as I view these adventures through a dirty windshield.

Susan is a mom of 2, grandmother of 1 and owned by 1 dog. Currently living in the Denver, Colorado metro area.
