Two years ago, I moved from Texas to Colorado. Why? Very simple, I have 1 grandchild. I work from home, I can work anywhere. When my daughter and son in law shared that they would be moving, I replied, “Hold up, lemme list my house”.
On Friday I drove to Ft Worth Texas for my other son in law’s graduation. This was indeed an adventure, I left my house at 4:30 AM and made it to my hotel by 7:30 PM.
This was my view as I was leaving Denver.

This was my view when I made it to Castle Rock.

And this was my view of Colorado Springs.

But then, I stopped at a rest stop in Cañon City and the sun was coming up, it was spectacular. Photos don’t do it justice.

I have made this drive alone and with friends. But then, I was driving to San Antonio, not Ft Worth. That cuts another 5-6 hours off the trip. My faithful co-pilot dog came along for the ride. The robot was on point and didn’t get us lost. That was my fault. There was a lot of fog and I didn’t see my turn. It was so thick it was beautiful and a little scary.

I had enough self preservation to not take pictures when I was engulfed in the fog and could only see tiny red dots for taillights. I was immediately reminded of the movie The Mist. It was based on a Stephen King book of the same name.
I listened to music while driving in the early dark of my trek, then to a true crime podcast and then to an audio book. Making stops along the way to stretch, have a bio breaks, and get something to eat.
My missed turn sent me into New Mexico for more the a few miles.

Because I missed my turn, when I got into Texas, I hit some small towns that I had never been to, so the missed turn, brought something new to the trip. New experiences, new places, same old Susan.

Today is graduation day here in Ft Worth Texas. Then to get some good Tex-Mex. After that, some family time with my aunt and my cousin along with her little family. I am so excited to see them.
But the best part? That will be seeing my son for the first time in two years! I already told him there will be lots of hugs, walking next to him and holding on his arm. Lots of patting his back. And then of courses about a million kisses all over his head – if I can catch him sitting down. It’s hard to shower him with kisses on the top of his head when he is 6’ 4” and I am 5’3”.
The goal is 60 new things before I turn 60 and I have 28 more to go and I can’t wait!
